Bubba Strait has grown up before our very eyes. As the only child of George and Norma Strait, Bubba has matured from a towheaded little boy to a respected rodeo cowboy on the PRCA circuit.
This gallery follows this remarkable young man and his journey through the years. Here are some photos I've collected from fanclub magazines, tour books, and from the internet that show the wonderful bond between Bubba and his parents. |
THE EARLY YEARS:
George Strait Junior, nicknamed "Bubba", was born on May 14, 1981 to George and Norma Strait. Bubba was the second child born to George and Norma. His sister Jenifer was born on October 6, 1972.
|
Bubba displayed an early ease in front of the camera. He frequently was present when George was interviewed aboard his tour bus where he hammed it up for the reporter, or at the annual George Strait Team Roping held in Kingsville where he gathered with his cousins and practiced his roping skills. |
Bubba's world was shattered, along with his parents, when his sister Jenifer was killed in an automobile accident on June 25, 1986 in San Marcos. He was forced to grow up without his beloved sister by his side.
|
The two appeared together with their parents at family outings like skiing, at the beach or swimming with dad in the pool, exhibiting an early love of sports. |

The bond between father and son has strengthened over the years. George proudly updates his fans on Bubba's exploits during interviews. During one interview George lamented how long before Bubba went off to college and would leave home. No doubt, George dreaded to have his only son leave the nest.
The song, "Love Without End, Amen" was dedicated to Bubba. George modified the lyrics in the song to include Bubba's birthdate in 1981. In fact, in the Aaron Barker book, "Love Without End Amen", George has the following to say about fatherhood: |

Forward from Love Without End, Amen:
"Love without end, Amen is a very special song to me. When Aaron Barker first brought it to me, I was touched by the simple yet profound message that it sent. A parent's love for a child is truly unconditional.
I can remember growing up and learning a healthy respect for my father's authority, but also appreciating his love and understanding even when I didn't feel like I deserved it.
Many of the lessons that he tried to instill to me over the years became abundantly clear when I was introduced to fatherhood. |

I have received many notes and letters from fans describing what this song has meant to them and about how it has affected their lives.
I must say that it has been as rewarding for me as it has been for them.
I have been very fortunate to share many wonderful moments with my son and eagerly look forward to what the future might bring.
I sincerely hope that he will have the opportunity to experience the indescribable feeling that unconditional love for a child brings.
It truly is a "Love Without End, Amen." -- |

An early tour book gave us a glimpse of Bubba at home in San Antonio. |
Bubba even took a shot at singing with his dad on the Pure Country songtrack. You can hear him in the opening credits on "Heartland". Although he was a little off key, it was a special moment for father and son to share vocals on a song. |
Bubba was a fixture attending awards shows and posed with his parents backstage.
He was interviewed once by Crook & Chase. Click below to hear a father/son interview: |

Present Day:
Bubba graduated in 2004 from Texas A & M University. He is pursuing a career as a PRCA competitor on the rodeo circuit in team roping. Bubba has been roping at numerous PRCA events, including the San Antonio Rodeo where he finished 12th in the money standings. No doubt, his dad, also a team roper, is proud of his son! Bubba is also frequently onsite at George's concerts. He can be seen sitting off to the side of the stage intently watching his father perform.
For George Strait fans, the George Strait Team Roping is a chance to see the Strait family together and to see how quickly Bubba and his cousins have grown-up!
